what moves you?

One symphony (or a dozen) is all I'm asking for....

I bet you (Es, who are you talking to??! hahaha) love (for lack of a better general description) "classical" music. No, no. Don't disagree (and don't try and find someone who doesn't if you don't disagree). Here's a mini-schooling. . .

Free of charge:

I (and you should, too) .....BACH (Yo Yo Ma is truly an artist. You're not into string? Download Cello Suite No. 1 and see if you change your mind), ROSSINI (albeit he does sing this as a bird, Robin Williams is awesome), TCHAIKOVSKY (V conducts it best), RACHMANINOV (Bill Murry has enough time to master it in that movie no one but me liked), MUSSORGSKY (Scared me to death as a child in Fantasia), BEETHOVAN (gotta love Schroeder), MOZART (the music lock in Willy Wonka ♥), DEBUSSY (I'm a sucker for a vampire that can play the piano. lol. yeah... I went there), WAGNER ("kill the wabbit" always makes me smile), COPLAND (beef! this was one of my favorites to play), LISZT (daffy vs. donald. lol), and not last or least BOCCHERINI (for some good ol' quartet music).

So.. for my next project, I won't be creating anything new. Instead I'll be recreating Bach's Prelude. . .on my violin.
Whhaaa???
Yeah, I've got one.

You could hardly say that I play since I haven't in years..

I downloaded the sheet music....

Oh crap.

Well, maybe I could work on multiple projects at once? lol
That way if this one doesn't get finished for, let's say, a year from now, then at least I can still work on other projects...

Maybe I should leave the regurgitation of a quick-tempo piece like this for the music majors.
I could paint a pretty picture or how I feel about it though. haha!

I'll attempt it never-the-less..

Looks like fun

I'll let you know...

longest 36 hours ever

I've gone all summer (July) without a scrap bit of news (blogging)!
Aww... don't be that girl

Sometime you've just got to break for your own birthday.
So... on to the current project. (Well, it's finished now)

Needlepoint Canvas Template Painting (it's a mouthful)

After 24 cumulative hours of work I'd done a lot of layout and planning..

and I'd gotten this far with the paint...

And then I was sent back to the drawing board to add a whole lot more stuff.. I didn't take progress pictures. I was too focused on painting ...stuff. My nose was stationed no more than 5 inches from the canvas the whole time (apart from the times I paused to take a step back and make sure it was turning out ok). Not the most enjoyable job but I definitely learned alot. He's a couple close up shots and the finished product. Enjoy.

And my final result is the longest 36 hours of my life......... (but as long as my client is satisfied)
It's definitely "crowded" as requested. I'm waiting for feedback....

PATIENCE

I was rushing to the end
But you're everything I saw.. again
I was hoping to pretend

I was knocking on heavens door.. my friends
But I was just a fool.. caught up in the game
Everything was cool.. believing in my name
(instead of His)
And when the sun came out
I couldn't find the shade.. but I am not afraid
Of the light anymore

(K-OS)

just another change to the page.
I guess when you're looking for yourself it's only normal to be restless on the way
BLOOD to blue
Who knew I'd change my mind so much

I think who I'm looking for is you

1 time affair

I don't usually do this
but you know the type...
"Oh! oh! I want a lion too! Paint me one! I'm FAMILY!"
And....

I had a professor in college (I feel so old saying that) that once told me to never charge family members for work done. :-/

ALRIGHT! FINE. ;-)

........I have this other project that I'm supposed to be working on...

A PAID project...

Eh. I can't resist a request like this. She actually bought a canvas from the store and was like please paint ME a lion too!

...so I did

and a few hours later I gave it to her. It's 22x28 (she called that large) and it's been said that this one is better than the last (sorry bay. I think yours is still pretty awesome though)

Here's the finished product:

Enjoy world!

in the days of Radiohead

Somehow everything is changing. I just wish I knew what was going to happen next. What I really want is to express myself
(AND I CAN'T EVEN REALLY DO THAT HERE)

What kind of vow have we made that although we're not supposed to go back on, we do.
I hate being cryptic.

I think about what love is all the time. I mean, I live to love. But what I don't live for is waiting around for what I think needs to happen when it probably never will anyway and I'm left disappointed and disappointing. I don't want to let you down but I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU EXPECT FROM ME

if i consume this am I doomed? If i eat this will u see me differently? does it matter?
(i don't think so)

No one has anything important to say today.
(including me)
We're all just waiting for someone.

Me? I'm waiting for you to need me.
can't have enough of me.
just want to be around me.
wait for me to say it.
act on how you feel about me.

or at least i wish it could be easier for me to pretend its not hard (like you)

I'm not coherent when I'm think tired. You know that...

PANS of the Art Factory

This blog entry's simple enough...
Come down the 4 or 5 stairs into the gallery, and start to your left.
That's good enough for now. I'm exhausted and unsatisfied. Better luck next time, I guess...

5 in Two

I dunno what insane goal I'm really trying to reach but all I cant
to do is be a part of
something real. I don't interview well. I
say what I think sounds right. Man... I wish I
could record what
I say to my boyfriend about my art. It's the realest I ever feel
like
I'm being with myself. It'd probably sound less like "I'm looking
to join what used to be
good music with what is good art" and
probably more like "I just want my stuff to
hang in peoples homes".
Damn, that's it. Oh well. Next time...

Anyway, 5 paintings in two days... I dunno why I
procrastinated so long. I think I kinda like the rush of feeling like its
now or never
. Maybe it's just my motivation or maybe its just
procrastination. I dunno. I knocked all 5 of these out in literally under
24 hours. I couldn't have done it without God (yes, I just thanked
God. lol) helping me to create something wonderful and fast please.

So check em out along with my progress...

(Someone ask me why I'm awake right now at almost 2am updating my blog? Wowie)

Ok, there are some people who want to see the spread at the show (cos I took a few pix). So, look out for my next post: Art Factory (June 9, 2010)

I said I'd post em...

So here they (better pix of my acrylic musicians) are...

4 Paintings. 2 Days

The wonderful ms. Tajah Gaines (what a great name, right?) presented me with the idea to be apart of "bringing back the art scene in Atlanta". What?? Are you kidding?? I'm in. I spend my days teaching art to 2-7 year olds (which is completely ammmmazing to be teaching art already). I'm definitely ready to get back in it. Too bad it takes an incentive to get me painting again. Whateeever though!

I have two 11x20 canvases that I got for christmas so, ok, I'll use those but other than that I have 1 large 36x48 canvas that I know I wouldn't have time to "cover" properly so it looks like I'll have to use some chip-board and an old canvas that I painted on years and years ago that I'm willing to work on. So, starting last Saturday night I whipped out everything and started prepping...

I didn't even know what I was gonna paint on this. I just knew I wasn't gonna hang that mess that was there b4...

I also have all this construction paper that's been painted on from my guys at school so I decided "what a cool way to make someone with crazy hair like mine!

I'd just rip it up and stick it on or something! So I thought that for my two 11x20s I would paint.... Lauryn Hill (cos I love her) and of course the woman with the most gorgeous hair alive... Erykah Badu. I see it...

The vision....

It's coming to me...

lol. Here's the sketch right onto canvas.

Ok... well if I'm doing 2 female vocal artists, then I guess I could go ahead and do two males?
...definitely Mos Def (bah da daaa. Da da da da daaaa. Bah da da da da da da da da da daaa.) Oh yeahh. And in my opinion (which is the only one that matters here anyway) you can't go wrong with
If all musical artists kept it real (simple) like these guys I probably wouldn't have deleted all the music from my ipod. (thats a whooole other story)

So here are my guys..
...It feels mad good to have it all planned out...

AGH! I wish I stopped myself more often to take progress pix. I just get so carried away with painting that when I do come up for air I'm like CRAP. I'm half-way done. Anyway... Here's where I ended up taking a pic...

After getting this far I decided to put her down for now and move onto the next piece...

This much took less than the length of a movie (I was watching alotta "movies-on-tv". You know the trash-type I'm talking about. It's the same ones over and over... uggggh

I moved onto Erykah next since I was in my naturally beautiful female groove... Yeah, that's what I'm gonna call it...

Ooo I'm so eager to start gluing the painted construction paper down... It'll be so fllyyy

But no.

Moving on.

I'm gonna get some man-action going on right now..

The canvas for Mos Def is actually really cool. Since It has an old acrylic painting underneath it's gonna have some texture (this is before I realized that paint could be flat. lol) Everything I painted in my amateur youth was all lumpy and abstract and had a name like "7 subtle faces". I mean that's definitely cool for the time. But we all (gratefully) grow up.

Still, the nice thing here is that I still have that texture on the canvas after gesso-ing. Gives Mos Def a uniqueness that I think suits him.

Why the ultra(marine) blue? *shrugs*

"Not really the best choice" I decided after the fact.

I'll just go back to what I have all visualized in my mind to do already. Erykah's hair. Hopefully that'll help...........

I love it but the passer-by-ers in this house are maaad critical. Tellin me they love the face but the hair is just.... not quite right. bah. ok. I'm switchin pieces again. I'm thinking Common must be feeling kinda neglected.... Let me show him some looove..

Me and the lack of progress pix.

Ah well....

A wash of colbalt blue and blue magnese (I know I spelled it wrong) and then I drew common on with watered down black paint and my paint brush.

What next....

Ok, I'm really slipin with my mans on the left. Maybe I'm working too big or something. Something's gotta happen.

As if I'm not far away enough from what "works" with him I added another "poppy" color. I felt so frustrated as to what I was doing wrong when (da da da daaaaaa) my buddy Alan gave me the wake up call to stop making Mos Def some contemporary artist. Having "contemporary" said out loud definitely made me see the errors of my way...

I just like taking pix of my workspace.

I know Common and Mos Def need something else. But what?

I've got this old music book...

But how to use it exactly...

(if it's not one thing it's always another. I just can't help but stress over ridiculous crap)

I followed the pattern on the right (more "city/skyline/urban" type?) painted the notes yellow (I liked the color) cut over a foot off the top of the board (it was really long. but was that a plus? Guess it doesn't matter now) and got:

Its sunday morning by now and I just want to be DONE. The show's Wednesday and I won't have time to paint during the week. All of my kids at school's work are preparing for the annual art show and I need to make sure no one gets left out, all work is matted, and everything is as finished as possible. It's ALOTTA work. Seriously. Trust me on that one.

I finished Lauryn the same way I did Erykah but I think I was a little hasty in choosing her glazing color. Now I'm thinking a turquoise woulda been a better match (I've used the color combo together a few times before and it's been pretty successful.)

But for now (and as far as Wednesday's concerned) I'm finished with her.

Last but not least....

Mos Def is killin me. In the end, I chose to use music again. I'm not real satisfied with the way it turned out on Common but maybe if I could cover up that bright green with music that would give him the more classic/original look I need to show with him.

Stay tuned to a blog coming soon that'll have better quality pix of the finished work!

Thanx!!
